File Formats
Selecting the correct format in which to save photos is an important step in moving your project along smoothly and insuring the print quality of your piece. Bitmap images (black and white line art) should be saved as EPS files. The EPS format is your best option if a photo is a duotone, contains a clipping path, or has defined or vignetted edges. This is because the EPS format works best to prevent a bitmapped edge, as it has the advantage of a transparent background. On the other hand, if the image will be colorized in a page layout program, save it as a TIFF file. Color photos halftone photos that are rectangular in shape should be saved as ScitexCT or TIFF files. AVOID formats such as Targa, GIF, PICT. These formats are used primarily for multimedia or on-screen display and are not suitable for printed images.
