Sending Your Files to the Printer
There are a few simple steps you can take to ensure a smooth print run. First, make sure you convert all your color images to CMYK if you are using four-color process. This can be done in Photoshop® by going into the IMAGE menu, selecting MODE, and selecting CMYK color. Next, make sure all of the images you have placed in your document layout are updated and linked. When you are ready to set up your disk for printing, include all printer and on screen fonts and linked images with your layout file. Tip: A mock-up or "dummy" should also be included in your files to help identify folds, trims, spreads, and pagination. This will avoid errors and show us exactly how your digital files should look. On your mock-up, include any information that might be useful to Whitmore. For example, mark your images as LIVE or FPO (For Placement Only) and identify spot colors and screens. If you don't use a color mock-up, include a laser printout of color separations. Finally, have a printing specification template prepared and fill it out in detail for each job... written instructions can help explain your desired results.
