Techniques to AVOID

OLE (Object Linking and Embedding)

OLE is a feature of PageMaker® that allows you to open a drawing or photo application from within PageMaker®. This can be convenient for the designer, but creates problems during the print process. Because the technique is not well received by Scitex equipment, the images don't usually print correctly.

HOT KEYING

Hot Keying is the term for assigning a characteristic (bold, or italic) to a plain font within a layout or design program. Below to the right is an example of Helvetica Bold versus Helvetica Medium with a "Faux Bold" applied in a design application. They look near identical on screen and print nearly identical, however, if the printer font is missing, another font will be substituted for the text using the "faux bold" effect. Therefore, it is best to avoid this method.
